Cyprus Requests to Halt the Flow of Displaced Persons

"Voice of the Nation" learned that Army Commander General Joseph Aoun, during his meeting yesterday with the national security advisor and head of the Cypriot intelligence service, Tasos Tzionis, received a request from the Cypriot official to enhance measures to stop the influx of displaced persons from Lebanon to the island. General Aoun responded that the army is doing its utmost in this regard. The Cypriot official also requested the resumption of maritime boundary demarcation talks between the two countries, to which Aoun replied that this matter is in the hands of the political authority. The Army Commander also met with the UN Special Coordinator Joanna Fronziska and the Egyptian Ambassador Alaa Eldin Abdel Moneim Mohamed Moussa. The visitors inquired about the needs of the army in case of implementing Resolution 1701 and the necessity of the army's presence in the south to fulfill its role according to this resolution.
