The Polish company "PERN," operating the pipelines, reported that it discovered a leak on Saturday evening in one of the Druzhba pipelines that transports oil from Russia to Europe. The company announced that it has stopped the flow of oil through the pipeline. The leak was found near the town of Chodźce in central Poland, from one of the lines in the western sector of Druzhba that transports crude oil to Germany.
The company clarified that the second line is operating without any changes and that there are no health risks to the local population, adding that it has initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the incident. In a post on the platform X on Sunday morning, the company stated: "PERN's services are conducting excavation work at the site of the damaged pipeline, and preparatory work is underway to repair the line."
It noted that fire teams and emergency services are present at the scene to secure the area. Druzhba is one of the largest oil transport pipelines in the world and has the capacity to transport two million barrels per day. The total capacity of the two pipelines in the western sector, which transport oil from central Poland to Germany, is 27 million tons of crude oil annually. The company did not specify whether this leak would affect supplies or the expected timeline for repairs.
