European traders reported that "the Algerian Professional Bureau of Cereals has started purchasing wheat flour of optional origin in a global tender that closed today, Tuesday." They added in initial assessments that "the initial purchase price was around $277 per ton, including shipping costs to the port of Mostaganem." The quantity purchased remains unclear. The tender aims to acquire 50,000 tons for shipment to the ports of Mostaganem and Tingis only, indicating a plan for a relatively small purchase, with expectations that the total will be less than 100,000 tons.
The wheat is required for shipment over several periods from major supply regions, including Europe, between December 13 and 31, 2023, and in 2024 between January 1 and 15, January 16 and 31, February 1 and 15, and February 16 and 29. If the origin is South America or Australia, shipping will be one month earlier. The wheat should be unloaded at the port of Mostaganem and/or the port of Tingis.
The reports reflect the assessments of the traders, and further estimates of prices and volumes may still be made later. In a previous extensive tender on November 7, Algeria purchased between 600,000 and 690,000 tons of wheat flour at a price of approximately $266 per ton.
