Los Angeles Hotels Without Workers Until Wage Increase

Thousands of hotel workers in Los Angeles, California, went on strike today, Sunday, demanding higher wages and increased benefits, marking what is expected to be one of the largest hotel strikes in modern U.S. history. The Unite Here Local 11 union, representing thousands of cooks, housekeepers, dishwashers, food service, and front desk staff in Los Angeles and Orange County hotels, stated that its members are struggling to afford housing in the cities where they work and have already faced job reductions during the COVID-19 pandemic. A union spokesperson noted that hotel workers in the area, including those from the "InterContinental" and "Indigo" hotels, were absent from work today ahead of the Independence Day holiday on July 4th.
