Parliamentary Oversight Law Proposed by Change MPs

Parliamentary Oversight Law Proposed by Change MPs

MP Mark Doue noted via "X" that "MPs in the Lebanese parliament do not have the right to submit complaints directly to the Court of Accounts. Therefore, in an additional and important step towards activating the oversight role of MPs and allowing them to hold ministers and state institutions accountable, I, along with a group of my fellow Change MPs (in collaboration with the Reform Organization), have submitted an urgent repeated law to amend Article 61 of the law regulating the Court of Accounts, which allows MPs to submit complaints to the Court of Accounts. The amendment will read: 'The Court of Accounts examines the violation either ex officio or at the request of the public prosecutor, the Minister of Finance, the competent administration, or at the request of one or more members of the parliament.' The signing MPs are: Mark Doue, Yassine Yassine, Najat Saliba, Paula Yacoubian, Halima Qaqour, Ibrahim Mneimneh, Michel Douaihy, and Firas Hamdan."
