The President of the General Labor Union, Bishara Asmar, has expressed his support in a statement for the strike announced by the Public Administration Employees' Association, stating that employees have reached a tragic point where they can no longer attend work or fulfill their national duties or family responsibilities, such as securing a livelihood, healthcare, and education, along with all other life necessities. He noted that public sector employees have become impoverished and destitute, adding that this also affects public institutions, military sectors, retirees, and servicemen.
Asmar announced his support for the just demands put forth by the association, condemning "the campaign against public sector employees, a sector that generates significant revenues for the state, accounting for about 75% of the budget." He called for the reactivation of real estate departments, the Traffic Management Authority, and other government institutions that are currently out of operation, and urged a response to the demands of public sector employees, including the issuance of a daily incentives decree and improvement of social, health, and educational benefits so that employees can perform their duties to the fullest.
He expressed his willingness "to cooperate with employee representatives and maintain ongoing coordination to achieve the desired goals of restoring the public sector to its former state, away from corruption and clientelism."
