Ukrainian War: Turkey Calls for Ceasefire Talks

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated today that Turkey hopes to initiate ceasefire talks in Ukraine soon. Fidan mentioned at a press conference following a diplomatic forum held in Antalya, southern Turkey: "Dialogue for a ceasefire in Ukraine must begin. This does not mean recognizing the Russian occupation, but the issues of sovereignty and ceasefire must be discussed separately." He noted that "our view is that both sides have reached the limits of what they can achieve through war." Fidan reported that "the death and injury of over 500,000 people and the complete destruction of the infrastructure and superstructure of an entire country is a reality we cannot bear." He added: "This must stop in some way. To stop this, some talks must take place, and everyone must get used to this idea." Ankara provides military support to Ukraine and has expressed its support for Ukraine's territorial integrity, but it also opposes imposing sanctions on Russia.
