U.S. President Joe Biden announced today, Tuesday, his candidacy for a second term in the upcoming presidential elections scheduled for November 2024. In a video posted on Twitter, Biden said, "I am running for a second term." He described Republican party programs as threats to American freedoms and pledged to fight efforts to reduce women's healthcare benefits, cut Social Security spending, and ban books. He also criticized those he described as extremists carrying Trump's slogan "Make America Great Again," who is currently leading the Republican primary race.
Biden, who is 80 years old, needs to overcome American concerns about his age to win a second term, as 44% of Democrats believe his advanced age is an obstacle to his candidacy, according to a Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted yesterday, Monday. Immediately, the Republican Party rushed to accuse him of being "out of touch with reality," stating that after causing one crisis after another, he considers himself worthy of four more years. The Republican National Committee said, "Biden is so out of touch with reality that after causing crisis after crisis, he sees himself as deserving of four more years," warning that if he wins, "inflation will continue to soar, crime rates will rise, and American families will be worse off."
