A spokesperson for the U.S. Treasury Department told Reuters that "Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo will visit South Africa next week, where he will seek to strengthen economic ties between the two countries despite the tensions surrounding their relations." The spokesperson stated that "Adeyemo will discuss issues such as illicit financing, the transition to clean energy, investment in entrepreneurs, young leaders, wildlife trafficking, and U.S. sanctions during his visit." He added that "he will meet with government officials, business leaders, students, and others during his trip, which will take place from March 11 to 15." He will also visit Cape Town, Pretoria, and Johannesburg. The trip comes at a time when relations between Washington and Africa's largest industrial economies have been strained over the past two years.
