Job Crisis in Israel: Loss of 265,000 Jobs

Official Israeli statistics have shown a significant rise in the unemployment rate in Israel due to the war in Gaza, resulting in 265,000 Israelis losing their jobs during the month of October, with expectations to double this figure in November. The statistics cover the first 24 days of the war, averaging 11,000 job losses per day during the conflict.

The Central Bureau of Statistics reported on Monday that the unemployment rate in Israel rose to nearly 10% in October after the war between Israel and Hamas caused the displacement of tens of thousands of residents near the Gaza border. The overall unemployment rate stood at 3.4% the previous month. In October, the unemployment rate reached 9.6%, equating to 428,400 unemployed individuals compared to 163,600 in September before the Hamas attack on southern Israel.

Israel has called up nearly 400,000 reservists for service following the attack. Official data indicated that around 80,000 Israelis were granted unpaid leave in recent weeks. The employment rate fell in October to 56.5% from 61.1%.
