Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi inaugurated the Sayyida Nafisa Mosque in Cairo today, following renovation and restoration works. Sisi toured the development work in the mosque's chamber and prayed inside it. He was accompanied during the visit by Sultan Mufaddal Saifuddin, the Sultan of the Dawoodi Bohra sect in India, and Mostafa Madbouly, the Prime Minister.
The mosque is located in the Sayyida Nafisa neighborhood, also known as Darb al-Siba, and is part of a larger historical cemetery called Al-Qarafa or the City of the Dead. The mosque was built in memory of Sayyida Nafisa, a respected Islamic scholar from the family of the Prophet Muhammad, whose shrine is located within the mosque.
The development of the Ahl al-Bayt mosques in Egypt includes the restoration and renewal of the internal halls and their rich architectural decorations, in line with the historical and spiritual character of the shrines and monuments, along with the upgrading of all roads, squares, and services surrounding and leading to these sites.
