A senior Russian military officer has warned that the conflict in Ukraine could escalate into a full-scale war in Europe. He stated that the likelihood of Russian forces becoming involved in a new conflict is "increasing significantly." The comments were made by Army General Vladimir Zarudnitsky, head of the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, in an article published by the Ministry of Defense under the title "Military Thought."
The Russian news agency reported him saying, "The possibility cannot be ruled out that the conflict in Ukraine could develop through the increase of 'proxy fighting forces' in the military confrontation with Russia, potentially leading to a full-scale war in Europe."
He added, "The main source of military threats to our country is the anti-Russia policies pursued by the United States and its allies, who are waging a new kind of hybrid war aimed at weakening Russia by all possible means, limiting its sovereignty, and destroying its territorial integrity." He continued, "The probability of our state becoming involved in new military conflicts is increasing significantly."
