An old building consisting of 4 floors collapsed today, Friday, in the Werdian area of the western district of Alexandria, resulting in the deaths of 3 people and injuries to others, who were transported to the hospital for necessary treatment.
Engineer Sahar Shaaban, head of the western district of Alexandria, revealed that "the Werdian building that collapsed today had a decision issued for the demolition of the upper two floors and the renovation of the remaining floors." Shaaban pointed out that "the residents and owners of the building did not implement the decision, and reports were filed regarding this at the police station," noting that "some residents occupied the building while others had left."
The operations room of the western district of Alexandria received a report about the collapse of building number 20, and that there were people trapped under the rubble. Immediately, district officials, police officers, and civil protection forces, accompanied by 4 fire trucks and 4 ambulances, moved to the site of the report.
