The Kremlin stated on Friday that Saudi Arabia does not need "lectures" from the United States regarding oil policy. This comment came in response to reports of disagreements between Washington and Riyadh after the Kingdom recently pledged to further cut production. On Sunday, Saudi Arabia committed to reducing its oil production by one million barrels per day, or ten percent, in July, in addition to the existing production cuts from OPEC and its allies, including Russia. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted that "Saudi Arabia is a sovereign nation that can make its own decisions and does not need lectures or sermons from the United States." Additionally, the Kremlin expressed concern that the Russian nuclear sector will have to compete unfairly with the United States and Britain, which have agreed to expand their partnership in the nuclear energy sector.
