The Al-Rafidain College in Baghdad, Iraq, decided to expel a student for placing an image of the late President Saddam Hussein on her graduation cap during a photo session on campus. According to an administrative order issued on March 7, the student, Abeer Tariq Alwan, from the Medical Laboratory Techniques Department, was expelled for the remainder of the 2023/2024 academic year due to violating campus rules based on Article 5, Section 2 of the Student Discipline Instructions No. 160 of 2007.
A video circulated on social media showed the Iraqi student wearing a graduation cap with Saddam Hussein's image during her graduation ceremony at Al-Rafidain College, sparking widespread controversy online.
It is worth noting that the Iraqi Parliament approved a law in July 2016 banning the Ba'ath Party, dissolved entities, and any racist, terrorist, or takfiri activities and parties.
