Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea discussed the latest local and regional developments, particularly the ongoing war in Gaza, with UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon Joanna Wronecka in Maarab, before her departure to New York. The meeting was attended by advisor Michel Sejaan, former Minister of Foreign Relations and party member Richard Keyomjian, and Mark Saad from the party's apparatus.
Geagea emphasized that "the Palestinians should not be left without a state to look after them and manage their affairs and interests." He reiterated the need for a solution to the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution outlined in the Beirut Declaration of 2002 to ensure stability in the Middle East.
He clarified that what is happening in southern Lebanon serves no one, especially Lebanon and its people. Therefore, it is essential to ensure stability along the borders by reinforcing the effects of Resolution 1701 and its proper implementation, with the Lebanese Army undertaking this task supported by international peacekeeping forces. This, he said, would maintain the safety and security of the Lebanese and protect their interests while rescuing them from the raging fires in the south.
Geagea stressed the importance of the army's role in securing stability and called on all parties to preserve the cohesion of the military institution and avoid involving it in uncertain adventures, as well as to keep it from undergoing any changes during this critical phase. He noted that the Strong Republic Bloc had already taken a step in this direction and expressed hope that they could work with all forces that believe in Lebanon's interests and stability to reinforce this step and protect the Lebanese army.
