The following statement was issued by the President of the Lebanese-Palestinian Dialogue Committee, Bassel Hassan: "The efforts made by the Lebanese-Palestinian Dialogue Committee for some time aim to strengthen the situation of Palestinian refugees away from any Lebanese internal calculations, and the events in Ain al-Hilweh and the involvement in addressing them fall within the context of these efforts. After it became clear to the committee that the approach to the Palestinian refugees' issue remains security-oriented, the committee's president announces a halt to any intervention by the committee in the developments related to the repercussions of these events, as well as any communications regarding the situation in Ain al-Hilweh."
Hassan added: "As it has turned into a purely security matter, the committee relies on the role of the Lebanese Army and the official Lebanese security agencies to address the repercussions of the current events. The committee will also continue its diligent work to support the humanitarian situation of refugees in coordination with relevant humanitarian and rights-related entities."
Hassan's statement came in response to former MP Walid Jumblatt's remarks regarding the necessity for Hassan to refrain from involvement in the Ain al-Hilweh issue.
