Nargis Mohammadi's daughter, the imprisoned advocate for women's rights in Iran who won the Nobel Peace Prize, addressed her mother with a message of support: "I am extraordinarily proud of you, and I miss you so much." Nargis (51 years old) has faced years of imprisonment and is expected to face many more behind bars, but she has vowed to continue challenging the religious regime in Tehran.
Her daughter, Kiana Rahmani (17 years old), who lives in Paris with her father and brother, told Reuters that she is "extremely proud" of her mother. The daughter, who has been separated from her mother for eight years, said, "If I could contact her, I would say: Hello, Mom... I am so, so proud of you, and I miss you dearly. I hope you will be released from prison soon to join us."
She added, "My father and Ali (her brother) are also very proud of you. Keep up the fight for a better Iran." The committee granting the prize stated that its decision honors all those who supported last year's protests and called for Nargis's release.
Kiana continued, "This Nobel Prize is not just for my mother. It is for Iran and especially for Iranian women." When asked about her message to Iranian women, Kiana Rahmani said, "Continue the struggle for a better future."
