Polish President Andrzej Duda announced during a press conference in Zakopane, located in southern Poland, on Wednesday that the country will submit a bid to host the 2036 Olympics, entering competition with other potential candidates including Indonesia, Mexico, and India. Poland, which hosted the European Games this summer, has never organized either the Summer or Winter Olympics. The International Olympic Committee granted Brisbane, Australia, the rights to host the 2032 Games, while several bids are expected to compete for the 2036 edition. Both Mexico and Indonesia have expressed their desire to host the Games, and it seems that India will also announce its bid soon. Turkey, Hungary, and some Gulf cities may also enter the race. European Olympic Committee Executive Board member Hasan Arat stated, "Our Polish friends have successfully demonstrated their capability to host international sporting events at the highest levels." The European Olympic Committee is responsible for organizing the European Games, held every four years with more than seven thousand athletes participating, across 26 sports over a period of 12 days.
