U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas-Greenfield condemned the violence perpetrated by Hamas against Israelis, as well as the violence by settlers against Palestinians. She proposed a two-state solution through "the West Bank and Gaza," calling for "taking all possible measures to prevent civilian casualties while exercising the right to protect their people from terrorist acts."
She stated, "Washington urges Israel to take all possible measures to prevent civilian casualties while exercising the right to protect its people from terrorist acts." She continued, "Washington opposes the expansion of settlements in the West Bank and is deeply concerned about the sharp increase in violence by Israeli settlers against Palestinians in the West Bank."
She concluded, "We remain concerned about the possibility of the Gaza conflict expanding further, and we call for an extension of the ceasefire in Gaza." She added, "All of this is in Hamas's hands. The Israelis have said that if they continue to release ten hostages daily, they will extend the matter for one more day. So, it is really in their hands. But I believe there is potential for this, and we are working hard to extend the agreement."
