The Greek government reported today, Monday, that "four migrant children drowned off the island of Lesbos, while a woman drowned in a separate incident off the island of Samos, as they all attempted to cross the sea from neighboring Turkey." Government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis stated: "The Greek coast guard rescued 23 individuals in Turkish waters in the early hours of Monday, and four of them later died, including an eight-year-old boy and three girls aged 14, 8, and 11 months." He added: "A woman and a child were found unconscious in a separate incident off the island of Samos last night, and the woman later died despite the efforts made to save her." According to data from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, more than 15,600 people have arrived in Greece this year, including nearly 12,000 who reached by sea.
