The leader of the Rapid Support Forces in Sudan, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, reaffirmed his commitment to a ceasefire to end the war, even in the absence of progress in peace negotiations. Dagalo, in a statement following his meeting in Pretoria with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, mentioned that he updated him on "the significant efforts being made to end this war." He stated, "We have confirmed our unwavering commitment to cease hostilities," although he did not specify whether he would meet with Al-Burhan or when. The two warring generals agreed last month to hold a direct meeting and begin discussions on a potential ceasefire, according to the regional body for East Africa (IGAD). During the meeting with Dagalo, Ramaphosa's spokesperson Vincent Magwenya expressed hope for a "forthcoming face-to-face dialogue" between Dagalo and Al-Burhan, calling for an immediate ceasefire. It is noteworthy that Dagalo is touring African countries, having met with Kenyan President William Ruto on Wednesday after visits to Uganda, Ethiopia, and Djibouti. Al-Burhan was scheduled to meet Dagalo on December 28 in Djibouti, but the meeting was postponed, as announced by the Sudan News Agency (SUNA).
