Cypriot police announced that the coastguard in Cyprus found 458 migrants aboard 6 boats that departed from Lebanon. A spokesperson for the Cypriot authorities stated that among the migrants were minors without their parents, most of whom are from Syria and Lebanon. All were rescued within the last 24 hours. The 458 individuals have been accommodated in a camp west of the Cypriot capital, Nicosia. According to European Union statistics, Cyprus has recorded the highest number of asylum applications relative to its population among all EU countries in recent years.
