Nashville fans chanted "Ronaldo, Ronaldo" in front of Messi, but the response came from Messi with a goal just 15 seconds later. Fans have long tried to provoke Ronaldo by chanting Messi's name and vice versa, following their rivalry at the top of football for over 15 years and monopolizing the Ballon d'Or for 10 years. Their fiercest rivalry was during their time at Real Madrid and Barcelona from 2009 to 2018, before Ronaldo moved to Juventus, then Manchester United, and Al-Nassr, while Messi left Barcelona in the summer of 2021, heading to Paris Saint-Germain for two years before landing at Inter Miami last summer.
