Bcharra Asmar, the President of the General Labor Union, announced from the building of Lebanon TV, following a meeting with the Lebanon TV Employees Syndicate, the suspension of the employees' strike while awaiting a financial solution. Asmar asserted that "Lebanon TV must return to its former status."
The Press Club expressed regret over the state of affairs at Lebanon TV, which led to a strike by colleagues in journalism and other staff. It hoped that the efforts made to restore operations to normal would lead to a sustainable solution and not merely a temporary settlement that would collapse in the coming days and months.
In a statement, the club noted that the decline of this prestigious media institution is a result of the deterioration of state institutions and the negligence of the authorities both before and after the crisis in taking administrative and financial steps to rescue Lebanon TV and other currently dysfunctional state institutions, suggesting that the aim seems to be the normalization of dysfunction at all levels of Lebanese state institutions.
Furthermore, it highlighted that the suffering endured by Lebanon TV affects hundreds of employees' daily sustenance and livelihoods, emphasizing that these individuals have the right to address their situations in a way that allows for the continued operation of this prestigious media institution and ensure a decent standard of living for its employees.
The club, which includes members from Lebanon TV, concluded by expressing its readiness to facilitate dialogue between Minister of Information Ziad Makari and the syndicate at Lebanon TV, with the hope of reaching a roadmap that would expedite finding a solution as quickly as possible.
