U.S. President Joe Biden stated on Thursday during a rally for his supporters in Minnesota that he believes a ceasefire in Gaza is necessary, after being interrupted by a protester calling for him to advocate for a ceasefire. NBC News reported that one attendee interrupted Biden, saying, "I want you to call for a ceasefire now." The protester later identified herself as Jessica Rosenberg and mentioned she is a member of the activist group "Jewish Voice for Peace." The network noted that participants attempted to silence her, but Biden addressed her directly, saying, "I think we need a ceasefire." When she urged him to explain what he meant, the U.S. President said, "A ceasefire means giving time to free the hostages." He added that he is persuading Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to implement a ceasefire to free civilians and is urging Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to allow Gazans to enter Egypt through the Rafah border crossing.
