The President of the Brazilian Football Confederation, Ednaldo Rodrigues, confirmed that he will use the friendly matches the national team will play in Europe to negotiate with Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti. Rodrigues stated that he will communicate with the president of the Spanish club, Florentino Pérez, describing Ancelotti as the top choice to replace Tite, who left the Brazil national team after being eliminated in the quarter-finals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Rodrigues mentioned during a press conference at the Brazilian Federation's headquarters in Rio de Janeiro on Tuesday that "Ancelotti remains our primary target, and the picture will become much clearer during the national team's European tour." Brazil will play Guinea in Spain on June 17 and Senegal in Lisbon, Portugal, on June 20.
Rodrigues added, "This trip will be extremely important for us to determine the future coach. I intend to speak with Ancelotti and the president of Real Madrid. Only after that will it be possible to decide whether it will happen or not." The Italian coach is under contract with Real Madrid until 2024, and there is a buyout clause in his contract; however, Rodrigues stated that this would not hinder any negotiations with Ancelotti.
He said, "The issue is certainly not the buyout clause. The problem is the contract, and no one wants to break it. We will do everything we can to reach our goal." Last month, Ancelotti rejected Brazil's interest by stating that he would fulfill the last year of his contract with Real Madrid. The Brazilian national team has been without a coach since their World Cup exit and lost their first friendly match of the year (2-1) against Morocco in March, under the guidance of U-20 team coach Ramon Menezes, who will return to lead the team in its friendly matches in Europe this month.
