The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres, expressed his congratulations on the arrival of Ramadan through a video message, wishing for peace to prevail in the world: "My warmest wishes as millions of Muslims around the globe celebrate the blessed month of Ramadan. Ramadan embodies the values of peace, tolerance, and generosity; it is a time for reflection, prayer, and a chance for connection and support. Unfortunately, many will celebrate this month while suffering the horrors of conflict, displacement, and fear. My heart and thoughts are with them – from the people of Afghanistan to the Sahel region, from the Horn of Africa to Syria and beyond. I want to express a message of solidarity and support especially to all those enduring atrocities in Gaza. The spirit of Ramadan, in these difficult times, is a beacon of hope and a reminder of our shared humanity. May this spirit inspire us all to heal divisions, support those in need, and work as one entity for the safety and dignity of each individual in the human family." He concluded: "May this holy month bring us peace and guide us towards a more just and merciful world. Ramadan Kareem."
