Bishop: We Refuse to Remain Without a President While the State is Falling Apart

Maronite Patriarch Bechara Al-Rahi emphasized in his Sunday sermon from Bkerke that "the Church cannot remain idle in the face of leaders' failure to secure the common good." He stressed that "we reject linking the election of a president to a specific individual, faction, or project, and we refuse to remain without a president while the state's foundations are crumbling, the people are begging, our active forces are emigrating, and the constitution is being violated."

On another note, he condemned once again the brutal, genocidal war on the Gaza Strip, noting that the death toll has exceeded 11,000, with nearly half of them being children. He also condemned the systematic destruction of homes, schools, churches, hospitals, and mosques with the aim of expelling Palestinians from their land. He remarked that "this brutal war, devoid of any humanitarian spirit and the blockade that prevents water and medicine from reaching those in need, marks a disgrace for this generation and the princes of this war," reiterating solidarity with the Palestinians and asserting that the only solution is the establishment of two states.
