William Burns, the director of the US Central Intelligence Agency, indicated on Tuesday that "there is still the possibility of reaching a ceasefire agreement in Gaza despite the continued presence of many complex issues." Speaking at a hearing before the US House of Representatives, he stated, "I believe there is still the possibility of reaching such an agreement. As I said, it will not be due to a lack of our efforts; we are working closely with our Israeli, Qatari, and Egyptian counterparts. This is an extremely difficult process. I don't believe anyone can guarantee success. The only thing I think you can guarantee is that the alternatives are worse."
