The UN mission in Libya has urged authorities to investigate the shooting deaths of ten individuals in a neighborhood of Tripoli, where city security leaders reported that "two of the deceased belong to a powerful armed faction." The UN stated in a social media post that authorities must "prevent any actions that could lead to escalation and increased violence." Libya has experienced little peace since the NATO-backed uprising in 2011 and its subsequent division in 2014, when rival factions took control of different regions of the country. Although major fighting has ceased since the ceasefire in 2020, various factions continue to control different governmental and security bodies. Brief conflicts have recurred in Tripoli since 2020, with clashes among competing groups often linked to the larger political struggle for control of the government.
