The Counter-Terrorism Agency in Iraqi Kurdistan and Kurdish-Iraqi security sources have reported that "a Turkish drone attack today, Sunday, resulted in the deaths of two members of the Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) and injured two others in the Sulaymaniyah and Duhok provinces of northern Iraq." The agency stated in a statement that two PKK members were in their car in the town of Jammjmal when they were struck by the drone, leading to one death and one injury. A Kurdish security source mentioned that another Turkish drone attack killed one PKK fighter and injured another after targeting their vehicle near the town of Amadiya close to the Turkish border in Duhok province. There has been a long-standing Turkish campaign in Iraq against PKK militants, which Ankara regards as a terrorist group. Turkey regularly conducts airstrikes in northern Iraq and has sent special forces to support the operations. The northern region of Iraq has long been outside the direct control of the Baghdad government. In another incident, unidentified gunmen shot and killed a member of the Kurdish Peshmerga forces in his vehicle in Erbil today, Sunday, in an attack that is rare in the capital of the semi-autonomous Kurdistan region of Iraq. Kurdish Iraqi security sources stated that the incident is under investigation without providing further details.
