Iran's Nuclear Program Approaches Weapons Capability

A senior diplomat announced today that Iran is currently producing about nine kilograms of uranium enriched to 60 percent purity per month, a level it returned to in late November after a slowdown last year. This level of enrichment is close to that necessary for creating nuclear weapons. Rafael Grossi, the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, mentioned seven kilograms per month in an interview with Reuters last week. The diplomat stated that Grossi was using an average since the agency's last report. The Wall Street Journal reported from U.S. officials that "Iran needs about two weeks to convert its stock of enriched uranium to make weapons."
