Donald Trump announced that he will not attend his civil trial for financial fraud on Monday, stating that he "has nothing more to say," despite having previously confirmed he would testify to defend himself. The former U.S. president (77 years old) posted a surprising message on his social media platform "Truth Social" on Sunday, claiming that he "has testified about everything" in the ongoing trial against him and his sons Donald Jr. and Eric, among other executives from the Trump Organization.
Trump's two eldest sons are accused of inflating the value of real estate assets, including skyscrapers, luxury hotels, and golf courses that form the core of his empire during the first decade of the 21st century, to secure better loans from banks and insurance terms.
Since the trial began, the Republican billionaire has attacked the judiciary while appearing in court, denouncing a "persecution campaign" against him or a "trial fit for banana republics." Following attacks targeting the court reporter, the judge prohibited Trump from discussing his team and imposed fines totaling $15,000 for violating this order.
Unlike the criminal trials awaiting him in 2024, including those related to his attempt to overturn the 2020 presidential election results, Trump does not face the possibility of imprisonment in this civil case.
