United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres emphasized today, Saturday, the call for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the need to allow more humanitarian aid to reach the besieged population. "It is time to silence the guns," he said, as Palestinians "remain stuck in a non-stop nightmare," with "hunger and starvation stalking the population."
During a press conference held during his visit to the Egyptian side of the Rafah crossing on the border with the Gaza Strip, Guterres stated that "Israel must allow all aid into the Gaza Strip, and the hostages held by Hamas since October 7th must be released." He reiterated his call for a ceasefire for humanitarian reasons and emphasized the necessity of allowing humanitarian aid trucks piled up on the Egyptian side to enter the Gaza Strip as soon as possible. Guterres arrived in the Egyptian city of Al-Arish on a private plane from Cairo, accompanied by several Egyptian officials.
