The Kataeb Political Bureau held its meeting today, Tuesday, chaired by party leader MP Samy Gemayel, discussing pressing issues as the war expands in the south, warning of worse outcomes and the ongoing vacuum in vital institutions. The Political Bureau emphasized in a statement to the Arab and friendly nations the "necessity of pressuring to immediately halt the ongoing war in the south, which has dragged Lebanon into its midst due to Hezbollah and its affiliated factions, making the people and land of the south targets for aggressions that spare neither civilians, young nor old, nor journalists, nor the land itself, while greater threats escalate."
It added: "Implementing the decisions of the Arab summits is a crucial imperative to end a conflict that now threatens the entire region, with no resolution except by reverting to the peace initiative approved by the Arab summit in Beirut in 2002." The Political Bureau also renewed its "support for rightful causes and the Palestinian people's right to live in peace, after more than seven decades of bloody wars, reaffirming that its core issue has always been and remains Lebanon, which, under Hezbollah's grip on its sovereign decision, needs more than ever an urgent protective umbrella to restore its ability to confront all internal and external aggressions threatening it, especially the erosion of the state and the gradual emptying of institutions to tighten control over what remains of them."
It warned of "the danger of the vacuum threatening the military institution at the most critical existential phase Lebanon is undergoing, considering that the current political bickering is a repetition of previous experiences that led Lebanon to where it stands today due to personal interests." The Political Bureau stressed the "necessity for the Cabinet to play its role in avoiding exposing Lebanon to security risks and to postpone the retirement of the current army commander if the concerned minister delays in fulfilling his duties."
It concluded by stating: "All the ongoing disputes today collapse if the Speaker of the House decides to adhere to the law and the constitution and calls for the election of a president for the republic to restore order to political life and revitalization of institutions."
