United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated today, Tuesday, that "the clear and repeated rejection of the two-state solution at the highest levels of the Israeli government is unacceptable," calling for the allowance of more aid into the entire Gaza Strip. Speaking before the UN Security Council, he remarked: "The entire population of Gaza is suffering from destruction on a scale and speed unprecedented in modern history... nothing can justify the collective punishment of the Palestinian people." Guterres affirmed that "the humanitarian situation in the Palestinian territory is horrific" and that "the people of Gaza are not only at risk of death or injury due to ongoing bombardment, but they also face an increasing likelihood of contracting infectious diseases such as Hepatitis A, dysentery, and cholera." He reiterated his call for an "immediate ceasefire for humanitarian reasons."
