Abdollahian Appreciates Qatar's Role in the Agreement Between Washington and Tehran

The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Sunday that Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani received a phone call on Saturday from Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian. According to the Qatari news agency QNA, the two sides discussed bilateral cooperation and the developments in regional and international situations. For its part, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Abdollahian appreciated the role that Qatar played in the recent agreement between Tehran and Washington regarding prisoner exchanges and the release of frozen Iranian funds. The Iranian Foreign Minister was quoted saying that "Qatar is making positive and constructive efforts in regional and international relations," emphasizing the "enhancement of bilateral relations between the two countries."

Iran and the United States announced in August that they had reached a prisoner exchange deal that involves the release of billions of dollars in frozen Iranian assets in exchange for a prisoner swap between the two countries, with the funds to be transferred to accounts in Qatar. Furthermore, on Saturday evening, Abdollahian also contacted his Omani counterpart to discuss regional and international situations. The Omani Ministry of Foreign Affairs tweeted that Omani Foreign Minister Badr Al-Busaidi received a phone call from the Iranian Foreign Minister, during which they discussed bilateral relations and developments in regional and international issues of mutual interest.
