Amid daily security tensions on the southern border and fears that the confrontations between Hezbollah and Israel could escalate into a war on Lebanon, rumors have circulated suggesting that Middle East Airlines informed its crew of the possibility of landing at Istanbul Airport "at any moment." In response to this, concerned sources at Middle East Airlines denied the circulating news, confirming to "An-Nahar" that "during periods of war, the company usually takes precautionary measures to evacuate its aircraft from Rafic Hariri International Airport to safe countries including Cyprus, Turkey, and others." However, they stated that "so far, the company has not decided to evacuate its planes to any country and continues to operate according to the current schedule." The sources also confirmed to "An-Nahar" that "if the schedule is modified based on the developments of the war, Cyprus will be the primary destination for Lebanese planes," clarifying that "the company has not notified its pilots of any measures as of now." As for the five planes that Middle East Airlines has sent to Turkey out of its 24 planes, they "are part of the schedule implemented at the end of the season (Low season), as there is no need to use them outside of peak season," according to the sources.
