The American official stated, "We hope that Israel will notify us of its plans to respond to Iran so we can be ready to protect our military and diplomatic personnel." He added, "Any new developments between Israel and Iran will present many possibilities, some of which are quite alarming. If Israel refrains from responding, we will see a de-escalation and the situation will return to what it was."
