Lebanon's caretaker Minister of Environment Nasser Yassin reported on Sunday, an embarrassing scene on the public road leading to Amr Diab's concert venue on the Beirut waterfront, where trash had piled up. He tweeted: "This morning the public road leading to the #Amr_Diab concert at the Beirut waterfront was filled with randomly dumped waste. As for what was inside, it's beyond words."
He added that they had previously notified the Beirut Municipality about requiring the organizing company to remove the trash and clean the area at their own expense. He called for the Beirut governor to initiate public cleanliness reports against violators, in accordance with Article 25 of Decree No. 8735 that states, "a person who commits a violation by dumping waste, wrappers, or empty containers, or leaving them in front of their shop or home will be punished..."
Yassin emphasized that the company organizing the concert should clean the site and adjacent streets at its own expense and bear the costs of treatment and burial, adhering to the "polluter pays" principle as stated in Solid Waste Management Law 80 (2018), and must provide proof of this to the municipality.
Subsequently, Minister Yassin shared a video on "X" showcasing the start of the cleanup by the contracted company. He reported that waste workers in Beirut began collecting trash from the site of Amr Diab's concert, with the Public Sanitation Department of the Beirut Municipality monitoring the operation.
