Controversy Over Former Miss Iraq Supporting Israeli Prisoners

Former Miss Iraq, Sarah Idan, continues to stir controversy as she reappeared to express her support for Israeli prisoners held by Hamas in Gaza. The young woman attended a concert by global artist Elton John, wearing a black dress adorned with the names of 19 of the detainees in yellow fabric. She posted pictures from the concert on her Instagram account on Tuesday, stating, "I designed this outfit with the concept of carrying the names of 19 Israeli women detainees to remind the world that they are still in captivity by the terrorist group Hamas."

In late December, Sarah Idan had previously appeared in military attire at an Israeli settlement near Gaza, showing her support for Israeli forces. Just a few days after her visit, she issued sharp criticism towards those labeling Hamas, which launched an attack on October 7, as a resistance movement, asserting that the Palestinian group "hurt everyone... and harmed the people of Gaza."

Additionally, she called for peace with Israel in a video shared by an official account affiliated with the Israeli government on X, saying, "We need to wake up and see the reality, and there should be peace between Israelis and Palestinians." Sarah's statements have been met with a wave of harsh comments and criticisms against her, with some opponents resorting to insults.

It is noteworthy that the name Idan gained prominence in 2017 when she shared a photo with then-Miss Israel Adar Gandelsman in preparation for the Miss Universe pageant held in Las Vegas.
