Italian Ambassador: Electing a President and Forming a Government Are Essential Steps for Reform

Italian Ambassador Nicoletta Bombardieri stated that "the challenges have marked Lebanon's past and present," and that "what Lebanese people wish for today is the rebuilding of state institutions, establishing a productive economic and social model in a clean environment, ensuring access to public services, and having an independent judiciary including achieving justice in the Beirut port explosion case."

In a speech given on the occasion of Italian National Day at Deir Mar Yohann, she noted that "Lebanon is currently at a pivotal station, and electing a president and forming a government are essential steps towards the long-awaited reforms," considering that "Lebanon does not lack the means and skills to recover, but what is needed is political will and the unity of officials for the benefit of the country."

She emphasized that "Italy's support for Lebanon has never wavered, even in the most difficult moments. Our commitment remains steadfast regarding our participation in UNIFIL, our support for security forces, our humanitarian and developmental assistance, our cultural cooperation, and the preservation of heritage."

In conclusion, she thanked MP Fadi Alama, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee in the Lebanese Parliament representing the Speaker of the House, Minister of Interior Bassam Mawlawi representing the Prime Minister, the ministers, deputies, political and religious authorities, and the Italian guests for their presence at this event, wishing a happy Republic Day to everyone and to all those who contributed to this occasion.
