Mikati Continues Meetings in Germany: Topics Discussed

Caretaker Prime Minister Najiib Mikati continued his meetings and discussions during his participation in the Munich Security Conference in Germany. In this context, Mikati met with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, where they discussed the bilateral relations between the two countries and the situation in Gaza and southern Lebanon, emphasizing the urgent need to halt the war and reach a fair and comprehensive peaceful solution.

The Prime Minister held a meeting with the Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Paul Gallagher, in the presence of Minister of Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Abdallah Bou Habib, Lebanon's Ambassador to Germany Mustafa Adib, and advisor Ziad Mikati. They discussed the efforts being made to stop the war in Gaza and southern Lebanon, as well as the importance of electing a new president for Lebanon.

Mikati also met with Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, where they stressed "the priority of stopping the Israeli aggression on Gaza, reaching a ceasefire, and then working towards finding a sustainable solution to the Palestinian issue."

Furthermore, the Prime Minister, along with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Lebanese Ambassador, met with Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly. They discussed the work of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and Canada’s contribution to its funding. Mikati thanked Joly for her special interest in Canadians of Lebanese descent.

Additionally, Prime Minister Mikati met with the European Union High Representative Josep Borrell, in the presence of the EU special representative for the Middle East peace process, Sven Koopmans, praising the positions he expressed during the EU Foreign Ministers' meeting, particularly regarding the emphasis on a two-state solution.

Lastly, the Prime Minister met with U.S. Senators Chris Murphy and Chris Van Hollen, where they emphasized the importance of supporting the army to fulfill its duties.
