Turkish authorities announced today, Friday, that "the death toll of drowned migrants has risen to 21 after a rubber boat they were on capsized in the Aegean Sea off the northwestern coast of the country, including 5 children." The authorities indicated that "the boat carrying irregular migrants capsized off the coast of Edgibat-Gökçeada" in Turkish waters approximately 50 kilometers from the Greek island of Limnos. The nationalities of the victims remain unknown. Officials stated that "Turkish Coast Guard rescued two people, while two other migrants were able to exit the water on their own." An airplane, two helicopters, a drone, 18 boats, and 502 individuals participated in the search and rescue operations.
