Sudanese Film Wins Award at Luxor African Film Festival Despite Crises

The Sudanese film "Goodbye Julia," directed by Mohamed Kurdofani, won the grand prize (Golden Tutankhamun Mask) at the 13th edition of the Luxor African Film Festival, which concluded today in southern Egypt. The Special Jury Award (Silver Tutankhamun Mask) was jointly awarded to the films "Trip 404" by Egyptian director Hani Khalifa and "Behind the Mountain" by Tunisian director Mohamed Ben Attia. Egyptian actress Mona Zaki won the Best Actress award at the festival for her role in "Trip 404," while Tunisian actor Mojaed Mestora clinched the Best Actor award for his role in "Behind the Mountain." In the short film competition, the grand prize went to the Kenyan film "Emotional Act" by director Eric Mwangi, and the Algerian film "Desert Flower" by director Osama Ben Hussein received the Special Jury Award. The festival honored actor Lotfi Labib at the closing ceremony, as well as several stars from films by Egyptian director Khairy Beshara, whose name the current edition bears, including actors Ahmed Abdel Aziz, Taysir Fahmy, and Sahar Ramy.
