The U.S. State Department announced on Tuesday that discussions are underway to reach a humanitarian ceasefire in the Gaza Strip before the onset of Ramadan. The State Department stated, "An unconditional ceasefire would be beneficial for Hamas, and we are negotiating for a humanitarian truce before the month of Ramadan." It added, "We do not support a comprehensive military operation in Rafah with over a million civilians present." The statement continued, "We support Israel's right to launch military operations against Hamas, but we also want to see civilian protection. Currently, we do not believe there is a way to begin military operations without relocating some civilians and addressing their humanitarian needs."
