The "Founding Committee of Contracted Professors at the Lebanese University" issued the following statement: "We, the majority of contracted professors across various colleges and branches of the Lebanese University, clarify the following: On March 3, 2024, we made a collective decision to strike through a survey set by the committee that claimed to represent the contractors. However, it misrepresented their will and did not respect the outcome of the new survey conducted on March 9, 2024, in which the overwhelming majority supported the continuation of the strike, contrary to the results announced by the aforementioned committee for politically suspicious reasons. Accordingly, and to correct the course of the contractors' struggle and to ensure their legally jeopardized rights, we have decided the following:
First: To withdraw confidence from the so-called official committee of hourly contracted professors, as it violated the general direction of the contractors by announcing a strike suspension against their wishes and acted unilaterally on many issues without respecting the majority's opinion. We will move in the coming days to establish a new committee formed properly with representatives of professors from all branches who will commit to adopting the majority's decision in their branch, tasked solely with defending the rights of contractors at the Lebanese University and determining the steps to achieve them.
Second: To continue the strike until actual fulfillment of the legitimate demands, which include raising the hourly wage and productivity allowances to a fair level and achieving tangible results in the file of permanent contracts for all deserving individuals, away from sectarian and partisan quotas."
