King Charles of Britain stated during a meeting with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on Wednesday that "the support messages he received after his cancer diagnosis moved him to tears." Sunak responded, "Everyone is supporting you." The king holds a weekly closed meeting with the Prime Minister, but cameras are sometimes allowed to capture the beginning of the meeting. Wednesday's meeting was the first official direct encounter the king has had with Sunak since the announcement of his unspecified cancer diagnosis. Buckingham Palace mentioned that the king will continue to carry out his official and paper duties while undergoing cancer treatment. Sunak began his meeting with the king by saying it was "great to see him looking very well," to which Charles jokingly replied that it was "an optical illusion."
