"Oppenheimer" Tops the Winners at the British BAFTA Awards

The film "Oppenheimer," an epic three-hour work about the manufacture of the atomic bomb during World War II, topped the list of winners at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) annual awards ceremony on Sunday. "Oppenheimer," one of the highest-grossing films of 2023, won awards for editing, cinematography, and supporting actor for Robert Downey Jr. early in the ceremony. The film had received the most nominations with a total of 13. Earlier that evening, Hollywood stars flocked to London for the ceremony. Among the standout nominees for Best Actor was Irish star Cillian Murphy, who played American theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, while British director Christopher Nolan was nominated for Best Director. Before the ceremony began, Murphy said in a live broadcast on the red carpet, "We’re very happy... No previous nominees for Best Director have won, and four of the six nominees are first-time nominees, including the only woman on the list, Trie.
